Citizen Path for Illegal Immigrants
Citizen Path for Illegal Immigrants
Strengthening our nation's borders to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants - building walls, increasing the number of border agents, or whatever - is one thing. But what do we do about the estimated 12 million illegals here now? Proposals range from just packing them all home to giving them immediate amnesty. Between those two extremes are ideas of creating "paths" or ways for illegals to eventually gain citizenship, which includes paying penalties, learning English and various wait periods. In all this lies the question of what to do with the children of illegal immigrants who were born in America. Under the law, those children are Americans, with the same rights as any other U.S. citizen.

Supports path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who speak English and meet other conditions
Says legal immigrants have first priority. Illegal immigrants must pay back-taxes, penalties and learn English before gaining citizenship

Yes...there are legal ways to come to this country...
But for many, the wait for these legal channels is so backed up that they could starve to death or die before a visa is granted. Or worse, in their own countries, the system works like a lottery, and the number of available visas each year is so few that the likelihood of EVER getting a visa is almost non-existent. This immigration issue isn't only about Mexicans. There are a multitude of Latin countries that are recovering from civil wars, and their economies cannot support their own citizens. These people are desparate to come here only so that they can make a meager living, and maybe send money home to their families in their own countries who are starving and living in the streets. Granted there are those who abuse the system and are criminally active. But the truth is that they are the minority in relation to those who abide by the law and do what they are supposed to do as best they can, knowing that their status here, or lack thereof, could easily send them home to a country where they can barely get enough food to eat, let alone feed their families or provide a place to sleep.
In addition to all of that, there is the cost of immigrating to consider. These people, many of them are coming here because it is impossible to make even a sparse living in their own countries. But the fees and expense of obtaining a visa is outrageous. And if they are denied status, that money is NOT refunded. So to risk so much money (and we are talking thousands to apply and continue status) is a huge consideration for these people who are struggling just to survive.
Many of them don't want to come here. And those that do, miss their home countries more than you or I could ever understand. And yet for survival, they make the trip...often on foot, walking from their homes, across multiple countries, just to make it here to make a small living. Think about it...how many rich or wealthy or even moderately well-off hispanic immigrants do you really see? I am deeply embedded in the hispanic community in several states, and I have yet to see a single immigrant who has come here and managed to make an abundant living for themselves.
So please, don't speak unless you know what you're talking about... As a child of an immigrant, and a wife of an immigrant, I know first hand what these people go through.

There are legal ways to apply for and obtain American citizenship. Most illegal aliens are not interested in citizenship as it has resopnsibklities. They want a Free Ride. I know that the road to citizenship is lengthy and full of pot holes, but perserverence pays of in the end. Some one said, "We can't possibly deport 12,000,000 ilegals. I say, "WHY NOT?" We might have to suppliment the immigration service, but we are a country used to meeting and overcoming obstacles. If it can be done, Americans can do it.
