Winter's Picks

In case you missed it, here's John McCain's acceptance speech to be the GOP presidential nominee.

It was supposed to be shown right before Sarah Palin spoke at the GOP convention, but apparently got bumped because Rudy Giuliani's speech went long.

Anyway, you can check out the four-minute clip here.

Other interesting tidbits: The Sarah Palin speech generated 37.2 million viewers, just 1.1 million viewers short of Barack Obama’s record-breaking speech on Day 4 of the Democratic Convention. The Palin speech was carried on only six networks while the Obama speech was carried on ten (including BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo).

Has the media been too hard on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin?

Roger Simon of the Politico says no in this column.

Quote: We have asked mean questions like: How well did John McCain know her before he selected her? How well did his campaign vet her? And was she his first choice?

   Bad questions. Bad media. Bad.

It is not our job to ask questions. Or it shouldn’t be. To hear from the pols at the Republican National Convention this week, our job is to endorse and support the decisions of the pols.

It's an interesting column, and one you should read.

To be fair to the "media," John McCain picks someone hardly anyone outside of her state has ever heard of. The who is she? What does she stand for? What are her key issues? type questions are all legitimate.

But some of those questions, especially from the more liberal blogger sites, were way out of bounds: questions like whether she'd submit to a DNA test to prove her newest child is really hers and not her daughters.

So read the article, and weigh in. HOw is the media handling Palin?

BBC News is compiling media reaction to Gov. Sarah Palin's speech accepting the GOP vice presidential nomination last night.
